Job Security! Job Security…. What Job Security?
Why were more millionaires made during the Great Depression, than in any other time in history? Because as Napoleon Hill once said “Opportunity often comes disguised in the form of misfortune, or temporary defeat”. They had an attitude of long term survival.
I can remember as a young girl sitting at long timber trestle tables watching family and friends laugh and talk loudly with hands going wildly in the air (as Italians do) and smelling the strong smell of tobacco drifting from the curing sheds. An abundance of pastas, drinks and desserts ensured we kept hearing “mangiare” “mangiare”. My grandparents were hard workers and when they partied, they partied. And when they worked, they worked.
Sailing over on a boat from Italy, my Grandfather knew Australia was the land of opportunity. A land where great fortunes could be made for him and his family and generations to come. They would have their own farm and work for their financial security. They knew they would be financially secure by having their own business. A business growing tobacco.
Not much has changed in my family over the years. My husband started James’ Home Services 17 years ago. Why? Because he knew having his own business would always ensure we would have financial security and freedom. That our children would come first and work second. We work around our children’s school hours, sports and them needing us to be at home if they are sick. We determine the hours we work and our children benefit.
So like my grandparents, Robert and I work side by side because we know our families financial security, is our responsibility.
We no longer have family gatherings in a tobacco curing shed, but as we sit on the veranda and watch the kids run around the yard and play, I can’t help but think “History has a habit of repeating itself”. So as we experience 5.2% unemployment, there is another stream of millionaires out there right now creating their legacy. What are YOU DOING? Job Security! What job security?

We all know this is the franchisors problem anyway.
If you’re a franchisee just let them worry about it.
Franchisees or Master Franchises don’t have to waste their time on marketing!
Now, who doesn’t think at half the advertising is total rubbish.
Made up by so advertising “Guru”, After what appears he’s had just too many Crown Lagers at lunch!
Example:That Commonwealth Bank logo, what is the story there?
That had to be designed by someone late on a Friday afternoon in a hurry to get home !
- What does this mean????
- Lets’ all change banks,Bank-west has a talking Squirrel!
Or what about that Bankwest squirrel thing, could any person in their right mind think that’s going to make ANYBODY change their bank?
Or,”The Snuggie.the blanket with arms” or the “Sham Waoh’the super shamie from Germany ! We hear a 4 minute advertorial praising the amazing virtues of these awesome products that we just can’t get by without!
Personally ,I’ve never seen anyone hanging out in their Snuggie!

What about these billboards about your ” love life ” lasting longer?
- That billboard!
Yeh, you’re driving along the freeway, you see the “sign” that promises to turn you into a legend with one phone call! It’s a wonder anyone drives past without making the call.
Won’t they think some one at Mackers would have worked out uniform that doesn’t look so daggy!

Brochures in my mailbox every week from Woolies telling us the specials!
I don’t care!
Don’t they know that I just throw them in the wheelie bin?
Now you may believe these are all total waste of money and you want no part this hype!
And you may even think if I became a franchisee I want have to waste my time on this stuff!
But,please consider!
You have probably heard about most of,If not all of the above!
Oh My God! The Marketing “Gurus’ got in our heads!

You can ALWAYS blame the Franchisor or Master franchisee if you fail!
What other business model has this luxury?
If you just start up by yourself,you have to blame the government,the GFC,the weather,the opposition,your accountant,the market,the bloke down the road who you think is cheaper than you,interest rates or your solicitor!
Sorry that was a slip!
You can’t blame the solicitors,they make up the rules and they always make a dollar no matter which way it goes!
A lot of people buy franchises in a false belief that if they don’t feel like running their business,it is the responsibility of the Master Franchisee or Franchisor to bale them out and refund the money.
A “Get out of jail free card” if you like.
This is not the way the “Free Enterprise system works”!
Business is competitive!
You have to compete!
Every business has to deliver to their customers!
Every business owner is responsible for their success.
This is what is so rewarding for ALL successful business owners.
